Children, Adolescent, and Family Therapy

As an art therapist and child psychotherapist I can help guide your child through the confusing territory of emotion and development. My goal is to provide a safe, accepting and genuine place to help your child gain and sustain a strong sense of self, emotional strength, good relationships and effective communication.

I use art, unstructured play, games and relationship-building to communicate with children who can’t always translate actions, experiences or feelings into words. As the therapist, I will focus the play, art activity or relationship to create opportunities for building skills—such as effective communication, managing emotions, navigating relationships, problem solving and growth where there may be deficits.

Therapy can help with:

  • Anger/temper tantrums
  • Fighting
  • Sadness/Grief
  • Low self-esteem
  • School failure
  • Worry/Anxiety
  • Bedwetting
  • Shyness
  • Lack of respect
  • Lack of cooperation
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Perfectionism
  • Problems with friends
  • Frequent crying
  • Isolates
  • Inappropriate behaviors
  • Lack of empathy
  • Impulsivity
  • Inattention
  • Defiance
  • Fear
  •          Obsessions/Compulsions (OCD)

Additionally, therapy can help your child build self-esteem, improve communication skills, stimulate development, build social skills, build emotional repertoire and improve emotional vocabulary.

By creating an encouraging, therapeutic space in which growth and introspection are welcomed and demonstrated, I help children experience a greater awareness of who they are in an environment that is free of criticism (real or perceived) and expectation. Once we build a trusting relationship, we can begin to explore the true self.
